Well it’s been a busy week in fashion. The royal wedding was like a catwalk show for what to expect at racing and weddings this summer. Of course I had to check in and wave my judging wand over proceedings. I hope you enjoyed the coverage.
So there is SO much to catch up on. Plenty of celebs have been walking red carpets in New York, Washington DC. Their very appearances demand a judging so I’ll be getting my critic goggles on (opposite of rose tinted lenses) in a big way over the next few days. ‘Today I wish I was wearing’ will be making a comeback among other regular features. I’ve chosen my 5 picks for summer maxi dresses and I’ll certainly give tips on how to wear a maxi.
In the meantime could someone please tell me what is going on in celebrity hair circles? There is a literal outbreak of bad dyeing decisions. It’s very possible that Rihanna is to blame. Celebrities are popping up all over the place with red hair. Maybe Rihanna is just the puppet of an evil taste-maker up in his/her ivory tower laughing into a talking mirror at two more major dye jobs?
The ‘It Girl’ of the moment (well according to Uncle Karl anyway – he seems to think she can sell bags), Blake Lively is living up to her name with an eye-popping pinkish strawberry blonde. On Blake, it’s very odd and unexpected choice. Job done. We’re talking about her. Last week the web was alight with comparisons with the Little Mermaid. No surprise that Rihanna was compared to Jessica Rabbit recently.
So it seems that teenage rebellion look-changing and/or Disney lookalike are in. Remember brunette was the colour to go for a starlet looking to edge out her image and seem, you know, deep and stuff? It’s Madonna’s go-to ‘take me serious’ look. Well it seems that young Hollywood is rebelling even against rebelling norms.
Next up is one of the smuggest young women in town, Scarlet Johannson. I was speechless when I saw this. No surprise that she debuted this look at the White House Correspondents Dinner last week. She was taking a stab at seeming cerebral and, you know, like interesting and stuff. It’s hideous, Scarlet. I have a headache caused by the amount of eye rolling in response to a girl called Scarlet dyeing her hair red.
Who does red hair suit, I hear you ask? Finally good news for us tanning denigrates, pale women do it best. Darker skin tones and red hair just looks weird. In order to get the striking look red hair demands you need that contrast. Case in point Florence Welsh of ‘And The Machine’ fame:
Fabulous. More on her amazing style later.
